Urban Playground Foundation:
Mission Statement

To improve Milwaukee's urban lifestyle by raising the awareness of, and access to its natural assets, urban parks, and recreational spaces. The foundation also intends to increase participation in recreational opportunities by driving fundraising dollars into the hands of non-profit groups that use, maintain or repair parks, trails, and playgrounds.

Background

The Urban Playground Foundation is an organization that celebrates, supports and promotes Milwaukee's natural resources. The foundation believes that it is Milwaukee's natural resources and offerings (green space, bike trails, Lake Michigan, Milwaukee River) that make the city livable, unique and special. The dream for the Urban Playground Foundation is to not only financially support the popular Oak Leaf Trail, Urban Ecology Center, Milwaukee County Parks and other areas of recreation, but to also provide resources for inner-city residents and groups to improve and enjoy their own neighborhood’s natural resources.

Many Milwaukee residents and business owners are attentive to the economic and cultural aspects of their city, however, very few Milwaukeeans are aware of and take full advantage of the incredible natural attributes Milwaukee has to offer. An urban resident could literally kayak in the morning, bike through a dozen neighborhoods in the afternoon and attend a world-class symphony that evening without ever using a car.

The Urban Playground Foundation strives to boost the awareness of connectivity, physical and otherwise, to many playful opportunities as well as the proximity to so many other neighborhoods to build a positive, healthy, active perception of urban living.
